Q: How to search for periodicals?

Search

A: The library has different categories of periodical collection in Chinese, English, Japanese and other foreign languages, including music, arts, dance, drama and theatre, cultural heritage, history and geography, general and others.
If you know the title of the periodical, you can enter the title to search in the iPac. If you don’t know the title of the periodical, you can go to Current Periodicals Sections on the 4th floor or Bound Periodicals Section on the 7th floor and look for it.
Current Periodicals Sections on the 4th floor holds current issues of this year and they are arranged by shelf notations based on their subjects. Bound Periodicals Section on the 7th floor holds back issues and they are arranged by their call numbers.
If you still can’t find the periodical you want, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Open up the display cabinet that holds current periodicals, you can find back issues inside.
  2. Maybe other patrons are using the periodical or it’s not been re-shelved, you may look for it on the tables, copiers or book carts nearby.
  3. Maybe the item has been sent for binding; you can check the status of the periodical in the online catalog.
  4. If you need further assistance, you can go to the circulation desk on 4th floor or contact librarian Wang Yenhsiang (Ext. 1815). Or please use e-journals. You can find the e-journal on the library database website (http://203.64.5.158/er/) with the help of some tools, such as Airiti Library, HyRead Journal, EBSCOhost, JSTOR, Project Muse, etc.

Q: I can find the book information in the library catalog, but why can’t I find it on the shelf?

Borrowing Rules

A:Some reasons you can’t find a material item on the shelf:
1. The item has been checked out to another user, and the status of the item in the catalog
  shall be shown as “a dued date.”
2. The item is misplaced.
3. The item is being used by other users in the library. You may want to look for it on the
  tables, photocopier, or book carts nearby.
4. Waiting to be shelved:
 The materials may be just returned and waiting to be re-shelved at the shelving area by
  the service desk. You may look for it at this area.
5. Exhibition book: Although the status of the book in the catalog is indicated as “On the shelf” ,
  the material is currently placed on the “New Arrivals” showcase.
6. The item is stored in a different location: The item may be stored at a designated area
  (i.e. “605 Reference Colletions,” “4F Course Reserve Area,” “Being held,” or “Oversize
  Book Books,” etc.). Please note the location indicated for the item in the catalog.
7. The item is being on reprocessing for catalogue: When the current status of the item is
  indicated as “Reprocessing--cataloging,” you may place a “on-line reservation.” If you need to
  borrow the item immediately, you may go to the circulation desk to reserve it in person.
  We can handle it on a priority basis and finish the cataloging task as soon as possible.
  We will contact you by phone or e-mail when the item is ready for you to borrow.
8. Please double check the call number, or ask a librarian to assist in searching the material.
9. Missing material: If the material still cannot be found, please help us to fill out a
  “Searching Form.” We will conduct a further search.

Newspaper

Q: What kind of newspaper the library holds and where are they?

Collection

A: Currently the library holds three kinds of newspaper: China Times, Liberty Times, United Daily News. Today’s newspaper is placed near the Course Reserves Area of Fine Arts/Culture Resources/Film and New Media on 4th floor. Back issues are placed near University History Section Office on 7th floor.
If you need further assistance, you can go to the circulation desk on 4th floor or contact librarian Wang Yenhsiang (Ext. 1815).

Q: How to search for TNUA graduate theses and dissertation?

Search

A: Please enter keywords of the book or dissertation title or in the online catalog iPac.
  The theses and dissertations stored on the general stacks are available for loan, but
  those duplicated copies stored in the Room #601 (Dissertation Section) are for use in
  the library only. Besides, the library has established “Electronic Thesis and Dissertation
  Services, ETDS” (http://thesis.tnua.edu.tw/main/index). The electronic full-text published
  after Spring semester, Academic Year 94, can be downloaded if authorized by the authors.

Q: I’m a reader from outside TNUA, how can I download the electronic theses from TNUA?

Search

A: Please use “Airiti Library” (http://www.airitilibrary.com), and pay for the service with the

Q: How do I change the authorization of the thesis or replace the one I already turned in?

Theses

A:Please use “Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Services, ETDS ,” print and fill out the
  “Application Form for Dissertation Replacement and Authorization Change.” Submit the
  form and the new version of the thesis to the Library Technical Service Dept. Please

Q: Can I borrow the course reserves?

Course Reserves

A: Yes. But the course reserves can only be borrowed from one hour before the library opens,
  and must be returned within one hour after the library opens on the following day.

A: You can search the course reserve by the name of the instructor or the course title under
  the drop-down menu of the online catalog. Besides, there’s paper-version of the library
  catalog available in the Course Reserves Area to use.

Q: Is the type of the course reserves limited to books?

A: Faculty can assign not only books, but videos, single article of documents (this kind of
  reserve is usually provided by the instructors) and other types of materials as course reserves.

Q: What is the time period I can apply to use the course reserves?

Course Reserves

A:The course reserves are available for use during school year, therefore they are not
  available for loan during summer and winter vacations. They will not continue to be
  assigned as reserves and would be removed from the shelves from one week after
  the semester ends.

Q: Are the course reserves only assigned from the library collection?

Course Reserves

A: The course reserves are not only assigned from the library collection. If the teacher lists
  some materials that are not available from the library collection, the library will make a
  purchase, but the quantity is limited to five volumes for each title. Besides, the theachers
  can also lend out their own materials as course reserves, and the library will return the
  materials after the semester ends.

Q: How can I find the material I want more easily?

Search

A: 1. The library will group the works written by the same author while cataloging, and annotate
    the original title for the translated works, so that the user can also see the translated works
    while looking for original works.
A: 2. As for audio and video materials, the story summary will also be added to the bibliography
   to make it easier for users to look up.
